Blog Entry #2

Paragraph 1-List and describe 2-3 social media technologies that you regularly use (e.g., Facebook, YouTube, etc)

Some social media sites that I regularly use would be Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google, Skype, and Wikipedia. Among all these social media, YouTube and Facebook is something that I use every day. YouTube is a video-sharing website on which users can upload, share, and view videos and have available for the public for viewing. Anyone who goes to the site can view the videos that are posted on this site. The videos are anything from beginner videos to more professional videos. You can just put anything you want on the YouTube site. You can also watch just about anything on YouTube. There are some great videos out there on YouTube that are very interesting and entertaining and will never be seen anywhere else. Facebook is a social utility that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them. It is free to join and requires only that you be over 13 years of age and has a valid email address.

Paragraph 2-Describe 2-3 positive or negative examples of how those social media platforms affect your personal life

The first reason social media has helped me because it lets you stay in touch with friends and family. You can get to know other students at your school or stay connected with other people who share a common interest. It also helps strengthen long distance relationships. I personally think Facebook is a neat website that can help with communication. The second reason social media has affected me checking social media sites while studying, it reduced my academic performance. The ability to concentrate on the task at hand is significantly reduced by the distractions that are brought by YouTube, Facebook or Skype.

Paragraph 3-Describe 2-3 positive or negative examples of how those social media platforms (may) affect your professional life

My conversations on Facebook and Twitter are very different and I have chosen not to connect the two feeds. On Facebook, I share personal stuff and on Twitter, my intention is to develop a dialogue that is connected to my profession. I am able to find content and conversations that are helpful, make me laugh, or inform me in some way that is interest to me and my profession.

I agree that social media can be a big distraction.  It requires self discipline to keep ourself focused.  I enjoyed this blog and look for more.

Good job on this blog post Maira! Your opinions expressed in this blog was clear and easy to understand also i can relate to your reasons for using social media.

Ha, ha... we reach in common. Social media is really a distracting thing. When I open a blog or watching videos, it is really difficult for me to say no to the temptation to learn more. In such way, a day flies away. And I really like the way you mentioned at the 3rd paragraph to seperate personal life and professional life with different platforms. Nice job!
